Basketball Recap: St. Charles Snaps 15-Game Streak of Wins at Home

St. Charles entered their matchup against Sacred Heart Academy on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The St. Charles Bulldogs took a 49-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sacred Heart Academy Irish. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

St. Charles lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Allison Zelinko, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Zelinko is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicole Zelinko, who posted 13 points.

Even though they lost, St. Charles smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

St. Charles' loss ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-4. As for Sacred Heart Academy, the win keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Charles and Breckenridge will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Charles is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.7 points per game this season. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they will face off against Coleman at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Sacred Heart Academy's favor as the team sits on 19 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Coleman has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
