Wheaton Academy couldn't beat Bishop McNamara on Wednesday even though they stacked six runs on them in the fifth inning. The Warriors lost 16-8 to the Fightin' Irish. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Fightin' Irish: they've now lost four in a row.
Reese Dryfhout and Emily From did some serious damage despite the final result: Dryfhout went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while From got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Dryfhout's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Vivian Brummel, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Chicago Hope Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Marian Central Catholic, falling 12-6.
Emma Lopez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jocelynn Smellie, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Chicago Hope Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Wheaton Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wheaton Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chicago Hope Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Wheaton Academy's way against Chicago Hope Academy in their previous meeting on Thursday, as Wheaton Academy made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
