Softball Recap: Welsh Comes Up Short

If Welsh was riding high fresh off their 22-0 takedown of Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Welsh Greyhounds took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights on Tuesday.

Alexis Hayes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Welsh saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kynnedy Nunn, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Nevaeh Miller also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Welsh's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Lafayette Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Welsh will square off against Lake Arthur at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Arthur is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Lafayette Christian Academy, they will challenge Midland at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Midland has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.56 runs per game on average), something Lafayette Christian Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of.
