Basketball Game Preview: Servite Friars vs. Mater Dei Monarchs

Servite hasn't had much luck against Mater Dei recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Servite Friars will look to defend their home court against the Mater Dei Monarchs at 7:00 p.m.

Servite is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-49 heartbreaker at the hands of Hesperia. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Friars came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Scorpions are ranked 378th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mater Dei, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with a 71-63 win over San Marcos on Saturday.

Servite better keep an eye on Blake Davidson. He was instrumental in Mater Dei's win, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. That's the most points Davidson has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Luke Barnett, who posted 18 points.

Mater Dei pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.4 points per game. As for Servite, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.
