Volleyball Recap: La Jolla Country Day's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

After a string of four wins, La Jolla Country Day's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Bishop's Knights by a score of 3-2. The Torreys were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

La Jolla Country Day wouldn't go down easily and took Bishop's into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 21-25, 15-13.

Tatum Epstein paced La Jolla Country Day's offense, picking up 26 kills. Epstein got some help from Alice Burgett and her 45 assists. Epstein was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

La Jolla Country Day's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 24-9. As for Bishop's, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season.

La Jolla Country Day and Bishop's should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Torreys will face off against Maranatha Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (34 vs. 479). Meanwhile, Bishop's (ranked 41st) will meet Pacific Ridge (ranked 211th) at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
