League recap: South Fort Myers extends winning streak with victory over Charlotte

South Fort Myers extended the longest winning streak in 6A District 11 this week by beating Charlotte, 28-27. This was the team's 10th consecutive win.

Bishop Verot moved up to 404 from 434 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Vikings were able to make move up by topping North Fort Myers 37-7.

Kurt Benkert put up the best numbers through the air as Island Coast topped Riverdale. He finished with a total of 19 completions for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Benkert's favorite target this week was Vincent Green, who caught three passes for 97 yards.

D.J. Oceant-Kelly was the best wideout in the league this week as Bishop Verot bested the Red Knights. Oceant-Kelly racked up six receptions for 149 yards. Luke Labreche helped Bishop Verot's passing attack out by catching three balls for 57 yards.

Robert Brown was the most productive running back in 6A District 11 this week. He ran for 202 yards on 22 carries as South Fort Myers defeated North Fort Myers. Teammate Andrew Dailidonis added to the ground attack by rushing for 43 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Benkert and Devon Calhoun the Gators have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Benkert leads the league in passing with 1959 yards, while Calhoun has rushed for 1048 yards this season. Grant Redhead's team's Eddie Collins leads the league in receiving yards with 495 on 22 catches.

The Wolfpack's Brown is a mere eight yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Brown has rushed for 992 yards on 129 carries so far this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bulldogs take on South Fort Myers. Ida Baker is in fourth place, while the Wolfpack are in first place.

South Fort Myers and the Fightin' Tarpons played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with South Fort Myers eventually emerging with a 28-27 victory. Dailidonis threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
