Softball Recap: Monta Vista Comes Up Short

Monta Vista extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 21 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They came up short against the Cupertino Pioneers, falling 25-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Matadors of the 17-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Monta Vista saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Kampp, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Cupertino, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-8. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won ten matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

On Cupertino's side, they got a massive performance out of Shelby Apostolo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, eight RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Apostolo has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Maddison See, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

While Monta Vista had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
