Baseball Recap: Haverling Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Haverling had won four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 7-5 to make it five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Le Roy Oatkan Knights 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Oatkan Knights: they've now won five in a row.

Dylan Wenban made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Haverling's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 6-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Asher Phenes, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

As for Le Roy, they moved to 11-2 with that loss, which also ended their ten-game winning streak. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Le Roy's side, Alex Spezzano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Peter Clark made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Brady McClurg was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Haverling will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Wellsville at 5:00 p.m. The Lions will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight. As for Le Roy, they will challenge Avon at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
