Softball Game Preview: Toronto Red Knights vs. Edison Wildcats

The Toronto Red Knights will venture away from home to face off against the Edison Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Toronto is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.

Toronto will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Wednesday, then bounced right back against Heartland Christian on Monday. The Red Knights blew past the Lions 29-2. The Red Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Madison Asafailo made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with five RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Laney Danko was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Another player making a difference was JJ Rebich, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Toronto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .648. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Edison unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against Meadowbrook, falling 17-3.

Toronto's record is now 8-9. As for Edison, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Toronto couldn't quite get it done against Edison in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Red Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
