Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Fossil Ridge

Fossil Ridge won the last time they faced Saginaw and things went their way on Saturday too. The Fossil Ridge Panthers enjoyed a cozy 53-35 win over the Saginaw Rough Riders. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Rough Riders are ranked 595th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Saginaw's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shaniah Franklin, who posted 18 points. Franklin's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Jazmine Duncan was another key player, putting up five points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.

The victory was the third in a row for Fossil Ridge, bringing their record for this year to 17-7. As for Saginaw, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-13 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Granbury the next time they take the court. Fossil Ridge will head out to face Granbury at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while Saginaw will head out to face them at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
