Basketball Recap: Central Eagles vs. Andrew Jackson Volunteers
The Central Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 88-35 loss at the hands of Andrew Jackson. Central was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 57-18.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sierra Covington, who scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Covington has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Griffin, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Andrew Jackson was led to victory by Ni?Yonna Asbelle and Tamia Watkins. Asbelle scored 22 points along with three steals, while Watkins dropped a double-double on 29 points and 13 rebounds. Watkins is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Trinity Delly, who scored eight points along with six steals.
Central has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 12 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. As for Andrew Jackson, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will take on the Volunteers at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Andrew Jackson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully the Eagles like a good challenge. As for Andrew Jackson, they will head out on the road to face off against the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Central comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
