Jefferson County Christian dropped their record down to 13-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Malvern Hornets, falling 13-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 back in April.
Carl Bonecutter made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Carson Duvall was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
As for Malvern, they moved to 6-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.
On Malvern's side, Cooper Kiehl was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Kiehl a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Malvern got a big performance out of Bryson Casler, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Casler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dakota Barger, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Jefferson County Christian is taking a road trip to challenge Bridgeport at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Malvern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Aquinas at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets are on a five-game streak of home losses, and the Knights a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck.
