Softball Recap: Mecklenburg County Comes Up Short

Mecklenburg County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lunenburg Central Chargers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Phoenix have suffered since March 14, 2024.

Mecklenburg County saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Poole, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Mecklenburg County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Coming up, Lunenburg Central will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Cumberland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Lunenburg Central's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. Mecklenburg County will be paying especially close attention to Lunenburg Central's matchup: after Lunenburg Central faces off against Randolph-Henry, they'll take on Mecklenburg County again at 5:00 p.m. on May 12.
