Bishop Canevin hasn't had much luck against Serra Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Crusaders will square off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Bishop Canevin will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
On Wednesday, Bishop Canevin made easy work of Clairton and carried off an 18-5 victory. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Kole Olszewski and Tyler Maddix were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Olszewski pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Maddix struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Olszewski went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run, while Maddix went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Maddix has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Bishop Canevin got a massive performance out of Kellen Andruscik, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Andruscik has become a key player for the Crusaders: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Brady Wagner was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Bishop Canevin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Serra Catholic came tearing into Thursday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Raiders.
Serra Catholic's win was truly a team effort as nine different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bodi Rieger, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Serra Catholic pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Canevin, their record now sits at 8-4.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Canevin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Serra Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop Canevin suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Serra Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
