Mukwonago hasn't had much luck against Kettle Moraine recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Indians will welcome the Lasers at 4:30 p.m. Mukwonago is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.8 runs per game this season.
Mukwonago will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Oconomowoc, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Indians came out on top against the Raccoons by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday. While the Indians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Paeton DeGroot was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two doubles, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Chatham, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kettle Moraine). They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Catholic Memorial on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Lasers with their most commanding win of the season.
Natalia Tramonte was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Marcheske, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Briella Hack, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI.
Kettle Moraine hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Mukwonago's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kettle Moraine, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-5.
Kettle Moraine's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mukwonago has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Kettle Moraine, though, as they've been averaging 11.4 hits. Given Mukwonago's sizable advantage in that area, the Lasers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mukwonago suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Kettle Moraine in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
