Basketball Recap: SIUE East St. Louis Charter Comes Up Short

SIUE East St. Louis Charter was the 56-44 winner over East Alton-Wood River when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The SIUE East St. Louis Charter Cougars took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Alton-Wood River Oilers on Wednesday.

Despite the loss, SIUE East St. Louis Charter still got an impressive performance from Kejuan Rives, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 15 boards. Rives' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Breon Johnson, who posted 11 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Alton-Wood River to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tamarion Marshall, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jordyn Spiller was another key player, going 6 of 14 on his way to 15 points.

SIUE East St. Louis Charter now has a losing record at 1-2. As for East Alton-Wood River, they moved to 1-4 with that victory, which also ended their eight-game losing streak.

SIUE East St. Louis Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 65-37 defeat against Carlinville on the 10th. As for East Alton-Wood River, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-24 loss against Columbia on the 6th.
