Baseball Game Preview: Antonian Prep Apaches vs. O'Connor Panthers

The Antonian Prep Apaches are taking a road trip to challenge the O'Connor Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Antonian Prep's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so O'Connor's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Antonian Prep's offense. They came up short against San Antonio HomeSchool on Tuesday, falling 6-0. The Apaches have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, O'Connor has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sotomayor. The Panthers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

O'Connor got a good showing from Ryan Zaiontz, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Zaiontz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ryan Mason and James O'Connor stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mason scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while O'Connor scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Mason a new career-high in RBI (three). Rudy Perez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Antonian Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4-1. As for O'Connor, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.
