Softball Game Preview: Marist Spartans vs. Stayton Eagles

The Marist Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Stayton Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marist has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Marist came up short against Scappoose on Saturday, falling 13-6. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Indians: they've now lost five in a row.

Blakely Hauck made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lera Basom, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Stayton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Astoria.

Stayton's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Marist, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Marist suffered a grim 22-8 defeat to Stayton in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
