Moriarty and Pojoaque Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Pintos will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Elks/Elkettes at 3:00 p.m. Moriarty is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
On Wednesday, Moriarty was able to grind out a solid victory over Espanola Valley, taking the game 9-5.
Isabella Gallegos made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shae Rios, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Sienna Rios was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Pojoaque Valley made easy work of Espanola Valley on Tuesday and carried off a 17-8 win.
Stephanie Romero was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashle Duran, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Pojoaque Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
Moriarty pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Pojoaque Valley, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-17.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Moriarty has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .555. However, it's not like Pojoaque Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Moriarty took their win against Pojoaque Valley in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 15-6 score. Do the Pintos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Elks/Elkettes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
