Basketball Recap: St. Ignatius Has No Trouble Against Lane Tech

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Gonzaga, St. Ignatius was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 64-40 margin over the Lane Tech Champions. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked first in Ohio, while the Champions are ranked 75th in Illinois), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Quinn Woidke continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 16 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Damon Friery was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds.

St. Ignatius smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Lane Tech's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dalton Scantlebury, who posted nine points and six rebounds. Scantlebury has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew Szafoni, who put up eight points and six rebounds.

St. Ignatius' record is now 4-1. As for Lane Tech, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

St. Ignatius didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 83-67 win against Coolidge on the 15th. As for Lane Tech, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-45 victory against Maret on the 15th.
