Basketball Preview: Miami East Vikings vs. Covington Buccs
Miami East has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Covington Buccs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Miami East is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Buccs in Ohio (the Vikings are ranked 32nd, while the Buccs are ranked 159th).
In what's become a running theme this season, Miami East gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They blew past Bethel 53-14 at home. With Miami East ahead 28-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Miami East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mckayah Musselman led the charge by scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Camryn Francis, who scored seven points along with five assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Covington waltzed into their contest on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Riverside by a score of 45-35.
Miami East's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-0. As for Covington, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Miami East beat the Buccs 40-33 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Miami East since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
