Basketball Recap: Calvary Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Calvary Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a hard 60-41 fall against the Deltona Wolves. The Lions were probably out for revenge after losing 51-33 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Calvary Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alexis Brown dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 boards. Brown is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Samantha Lecas was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Calvary Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Deltona's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kelsey Assent, who posted 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Camora Pate, who had 18 points.

Calvary Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Deltona, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-9.

Calvary Christian Academy has already played their next game (against Halifax Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Deltona didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-47 win against Innovation on the 4th.
