Recap: Greenville Hornets vs. Canton Tigers
The Greenville Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. They were beaten by Canton 56-11. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Greenville has scored all season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Greenville struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Canton found their leader in underclassman Shamira Morton, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Morton is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Kylei Rogers was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five steals.
Greenville has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Canton, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 21-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenville will take on Cleveland Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Cleveland Central is ranked 120th, while Greenville is ranked 132nd). As for Canton, Canton and Yazoo City will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
