Football Recap: Ashbrook's Undefeated Season over After 13 Games

Ashbrook and Northern Guilford squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Ashbrook had to settle for second. They lost 39-14 to the Nighthawks. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Greenwave, who until this contest were averaging 12.46 points allowed.

Timothy Armstrong threw for 190 yards and a pair of TDs on only 18 passes. Aj McClain was his top target, picking up 58 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northern Guilford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amare Akers, who rushed for 108 yards and two scores on only 13 carries. Akers has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Kemp, who rushed for 35 yards and one touchdown.

Having lost for the first time this season, Ashbrook fell to 12-1. As for Northern Guilford, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-1.

Ashbrook does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northern Guilford, they will face off against Watauga at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers' defense has only allowed 11.6 points per game this season, so the Nighthawks' offense will have their work cut out for them.
