Baseball Preview: East Central Hornets vs. St. Patrick Fighting Irish
The East Central Hornets will face off against the St. Patrick Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Monday, East Central didn't have quite enough to beat Harrison Central and fell 6-5. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Matthew Combs and Christian McFaul stepped up to the plate in a big way. Combs went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI, while McFaul scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, McFaul posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Martin, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, St. Patrick gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Presbyterian Christian 6-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fighting Irish.
St. Patrick also got a great performance from Chandler Marsland as he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. That's the fewest hits Marsland has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, St. Patrick saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chaz Byers, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
East Central's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for St. Patrick, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3-1.
