Football Recap: Central Catholic's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

After losing to Patterson the last time they met, Central Catholic decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Raiders walked away with a 19-6 win over the Tigers on Thursday. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Tigers are ranked 460th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Central Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mia Cardoza led the charge by throwing for 214 yards and two touchdowns. That's the most passing yards Cardoza has posted over her last six games. Central Catholic's leading receiver Adisyn Quadros was Cardoza's top target yet again, picking up 97 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Central Catholic's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Quadros and Melanie Alberto, who racked up all seven sacks between them. Analeah Avila was another major factor on D, making seven total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Central Catholic, bringing their record up to 12-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.5 points on average over those games. As for Patterson, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Central Catholic will square off against rival East Union at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Raiders 10.9, the Lancers 11.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Patterson is set to face off against their familiar foe Oakdale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
