Basketball Recap: Triton's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Triton had won five straight games and Ro'Mello Pegues did his part to make it six on Thursday. The Triton Hawks claimed a resounding 73-34 victory over the Smithfield-Selma Spartans thanks in part to Pegues, who went 8 of 10 on his way to 18 points and four steals. His evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Bennett, who posted six points. Those six points gave him a new career-high.

Despite the defeat, Smithfield-Selma had strong showings from Johnavon Cox, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Jaime Groves, who put up four points. Jimmy Raiford was another key player, putting up eight points.

Triton's record is now 7-1. As for Smithfield-Selma, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Triton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-65 defeat against Westover on the 13th. As for Smithfield-Selma, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-42 loss against South Johnston on the 13th.
