Two dominant backs in Jude Dunavin and Reese Cabe are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Amarillo Sandies will head out to take on the Tascosa Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tascosa will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Amarillo extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Sandies took their contest with ease, bagging a 58-13 victory over Lubbock. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Sandies' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Westerners are ranked 865th).

Jett Lopez had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 309 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 29 passing touchdowns on the season. Tate Blackwell was in the mix too, providing Amarillo with three scores.
Amarillo's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Kason Stroud refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Amarillo got some further help from Stroud: he picked up 1.5 sacks, made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Tascosa's strategy against Caprock on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Rebels blew the Longhorns out of the water with a 52-10 final score. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Longhorns recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Tascosa's win came from a few key players Amarillo will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Deandre Sanders, who rushed for 95 yards and one TD on only seven carries. Those 95 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Coltyn Fulton was another key player, rushing for 96 yards on only nine carries.
Tascosa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 431 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Amarillo's record is now 7-2. As for Tascosa, their record now sits at 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Amarillo has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 187 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tascosa struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 322.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Amarillo came up short against Tascosa in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 34-29. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Fulton, who rushed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 186 yards and two TDs on only 11 passes. Now that the Sandies know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
