Softball Recap: Boone Grove's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Boone Grove had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Illiana Christian Vikings 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since May 11, 2024.

Amanda Powell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Boone Grove's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mercedes Szakacs, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That's the most hits Szakacs has posted since back in May of 2024.

Boone Grove's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Illiana Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 3-2.

Coming up, Boone Grove will challenge Kouts at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Illiana Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Chesterton at 10:00 a.m.
