Baseball Recap: Hillcrest Hawks vs. Oak Lawn Spartans

Hillcrest extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-14 in the process. They came up short against the Oak Lawn Spartans, falling 11-0. The Hawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Hillcrest saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Walls, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Oak Lawn, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-10. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Oak Lawn's side, Jack Westin looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Westin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jackson Hilger was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Melnik, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillcrest will challenge Peotone at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Oak Lawn, they will face off against Lemont at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
