The Obion County Rebels will take on the Haywood Tomcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Obion County has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Obion County fell victim to Westview and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 13-0 to the Chargers. The loss continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Chargers: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Haywood made sure to put some runs up on the board against Liberty Tech Magnet on Tuesday. Haywood was the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Liberty Tech Magnet. The Tomcats haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Owen Stanley and Kevion Woodland were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Stanley tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Woodland struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Stanley scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Woodland went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Haywood is undefeated when Stanley posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Carlos Hines was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ty' Sean Mercer, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Obion County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Haywood, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Obion County took their victory against Haywood in their previous meeting last Monday by a conclusive 18-6. Will Obion County repeat their success, or does Haywood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
