Preview: Delaware County Christian Knights vs. Mount Calvary Christian Chargers

Two dominant players in Khamai Orange and Avery Kopcha are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Delaware County Christian Knights just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Mount Calvary Christian Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on December 16th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Delaware County Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They came out on top against Philadelphia Montgomery Christian Academy by a score of 76-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Orange and Beau Lyren were among the main playmakers for Delaware County Christian as the former scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and six assists and the latter scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Josiah Gaines was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.

Mount Calvary Christian has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 20 points or more this season. They really took it to West Shore Christian Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-36 victory at home. With Mount Calvary Christian ahead 39-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Mount Calvary Christian's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kopcha, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five assists, and Trey Robinson, who scored 29 points along with four steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Kopcha has scored at least 25% of Mount Calvary Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Zach Witmer, who scored four points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Delaware County Christian's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Mount Calvary Christian, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2.

Keep an eye on the arc in Saturday's contest: Delaware County Christian have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Mount Calvary Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 7 threes per game. Given Delaware County Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Mount Calvary Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.

Delaware County Christian came up short against Mount Calvary Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 50-45. Can Delaware County Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
