Basketball Recap: Bernalillo Comes Up Short

Bernalillo lost against Valley back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Bernalillo Spartans were beaten by the Valley Vikings 64-29. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Valley was led to victory by Christopher Melendez and Kevin DeVargas. Melendez went 7 of 11 on his way to 18 points in addition to five assists and three steals, while DeVargas went 5 for 8 en route to 11 points along with eight boards and three steals. Those three steals gave DeVargas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Luciano Mondragon, who posted six points and five assists.

Bernalillo's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-11.

Bernalillo will square off against Hope Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bernalillo is facing Hope Christian at the right time seeing as Hope Christian is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Valley, they will challenge Albuquerque Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Albuquerque Academy likes a good challenge.
