The Garrett Railroaders will challenge the Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saints at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Garrett is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
While Garrett didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against West Noble on Saturday as they made off with a 21-10 win. The result was nothing new for the Railroaders, who have now won three matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Peyton Grindstaff was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five runs, and three doubles. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Work, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double.
Garrett always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
DeKalb hit Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger with a five-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Saints took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Barons. Saints fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Barons since on Tuesday.
Brooklyn Baker was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Maeve Miltner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Garrett's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Garrett suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Can the Railroaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
