Basketball Recap: Sumiton Christian Takes a Loss

Sumiton Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by the Berry Wildcats 63-24. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 41-38.

Maggie Mauldin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Berry, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Mauldin has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Shayla Mayfield, who posted six points and five steals.

Sumiton Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Berry, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-13.

Sumiton Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Addison at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Berry, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against Brilliant at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
