After both having extra time off, the Cotopaxi Pirates and the Antonito Trojans will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Cotopaxi will be strutting in after a victory while Antonito will be coming in after a loss.
Cotopaxi took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They came out on top against Centennial by a score of 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won seven in a row.
The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-13, 25-20.
Cotopaxi's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Alicen Sovocol, who had 21 digs, and Violet Jacoby, who had 31 digs and six aces. That's the most aces Jacoby has posted since back in October of 2024.
They weren't the only good servers: Cotopaxi was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 25 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Antonito came up short against Cotopaxi last Saturday and fell 3-1. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
While Antonito ultimately came up short, they really made Cotopaxi work, particularly in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18.
Antonito's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Cotopaxi, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.
Cotopaxi beat Antonito 3-1 in their previous matchup last Saturday. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
