While Pittsfield didn't have the best season last year (they finished 16-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Barry Western Wildcats 2-1. For the Saukees, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 victory the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

If you add up the scores from across all three sets (71-62) Pittsfield actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 11-25, 25-22, 26-24.

Sophie Gengler paced Pittsfield's offense, picking up nine kills. Gengler got some help from Lincoln McCartney and her 17 assists. McCartney was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Despite the loss, Barry Western still got an impressive performance from Allison Woods, who had 15 digs and two aces.

Pittsfield has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Barry Western, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.

Pittsfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 win against North Greene on the 25th. As for Barry Western, they will square off against West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
