Basketball Recap: Murrieta Valley Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Vista Murrieta, Murrieta Valley was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Chaparral Pumas 65-63. Given the Nighthawks' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Pumas are ranked 463rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Parker Steffen, who went 13 of 15 en route to 30 points and four steals. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tony Rutledge, who had 14 points and five rebounds.

Jack Wilson and Brandon Martin certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Wilson went 8 for 13 on his way to 18 points and seven boards, while Martin went 6 of 13 to rack up 19 points. Wilson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Andrew De La Torre was another key player, putting up seven points.

Murrieta Valley's record is now 16-11. As for Chaparral, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-14.

Murrieta Valley has already played their next match, an 82-80 victory against Temecula Valley on the 5th. As for Chaparral, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-48 defeat against Vista Murrieta on the 5th.
