The Sarasota Sailors will head out on the road to square off against the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sarasota will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Sarasota beat Out-of-Door Academy 6-3.
Jacob Zeman looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mark Metcalf, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Patrick Drymon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lakewood Ranch didn't have quite enough to beat Parrish Community on Tuesday and fell 4-3. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lakewood Ranch also got a good showing from Chase Skarbek, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Lakewood Ranch saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luis Flores, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Jackson Skogland also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Lakewood Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Sarasota, they pushed their record up to 14-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Lakewood Ranch's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sarasota hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. It's a different story for Lakewood Ranch, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Sarasota's hitters?
