Basketball Recap: Denver Jewish Day Drops Highest Score of Season Against Denver Academy of Torah

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Denver Jewish Day). They walked away with a 61-49 win over the Denver Academy of Torah Wolves on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Denver Jewish Day got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Solly Bielsky out in front who posted 16 points and eight boards. Bielsky is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Jackson Brooks was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Denver Jewish Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.

Despite the loss, Denver Academy of Torah saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Avi Askenazi went 7-for-12 en route to 19 points and eight boards. Thanks to that strong game, Askenazi now owns an excellent 45.7% field goal percentage. Another player making a difference was Daniel Fiedler, who earned ten points.

Denver Jewish Day's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Denver Academy of Torah, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Denver Jewish Day wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 25-23 defeat against Prairie on the 20th. As for Denver Academy of Torah, they will square off against Monument Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 27th. Denver Academy of Torah is facing Monument Academy at the right time seeing as Monument Academy is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
