Basketball Recap: Jay Find Success

While Jay's victory against Southwest wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. In a tight game that could have gone either way, the Mustangs made off with a 46-45 win over the Dragons. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won six in a row.

Jay's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emmarie Baldwin, who posted 23 points and three steals. Baldwin's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Annalicia Rosa, who earned eight points and four steals.

Jay was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They are 9-1 when they've passed the ball that well.

Despite the defeat, Southwest saw an underclassman step up: freshman Skylar Sims dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Sims is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in each of the last three games she's played. Genaya Santos was another key player, putting up nine points.

The win got Jay back to even at 11-11. As for Southwest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-9 record this season.

Coincidentally, Jay and Southwest will both be playing Southside the next time they take the court. The Dragons will host the Cardinals at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, while the Mustangs will head out to face them at 11:30 a.m. on December 31.
