Basketball Recap: Evangelical Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Quez Outten and Drew Irwin

Evangelical Christian was the 64-45 winner over South Fort Myers when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Evangelical Christian Sentinels took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Fort Myers Wolfpack on Thursday. The matchup marked the Sentinels' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Evangelical Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Drew Irwin and Quez Outten. Irwin went 6 of 12 on his way to 19 points and six boards, while Outten went 7 of 17 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Outten has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times he's played.

South Fort Myers found their leader in sophomore Lil Darius Sotomayor, who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sotomayor has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja?Mahdi Ward, who posted eight points in addition to nine boards and three blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Evangelical Christian and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for South Fort Myers, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Evangelical Christian will be taking part in a tournament against Brecksville-Broadview Heights at 8:00 p.m. on December 26th. As for South Fort Myers, they and DeSoto County will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. South Fort Myers is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season.
