Basketball Recap: Edwin O. Smith Comes Up Short

Edwin O. Smith was the 55-30 winner over Berlin when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Edwin O. Smith Panthers lost 56-36 to the Berlin Redcoats on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Redcoats are ranked 13th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Berlin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Katie Litwinko, who went 8 of 19 on her way to 19 points and five assists. With that strong performance, Litwinko is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Desmarais, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 16 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Edwin O. Smith and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Berlin, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

When Edwin O. Smith and Berlin next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Edwin O. Smith will try to stop Conard's five-game winning streak when the meet at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Berlin will try to stop Northwest Catholic's 11-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
