Baseball Game Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Burbank Titans

Valley and Burbank are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Vikings will square off against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Valley's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.

Valley's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Foothill with a sharp 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won four in a row.

Jayy Frisk and Carmine Bermudez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Frisk struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Bermudez pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Valley: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-7 otherwise. At bat, Frisk went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Bermudez went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those two hits gave Frisk a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Giovanni Carmona, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Calvillo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Burbank fell victim to Union Mine and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Diamondbacks. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Titans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Valley's record now sits at 6-8. As for Burbank, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.

Valley might still be hurting after the 10-4 defeat they got from Burbank in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
