League recap: Springfield surprises Garnet Valley

Springfield scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Garnet Valley, 35-25. At the time, the Jaguars was ranked 25th in the state, while the Cougars was 156th.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Strath Haven, who took down 224th ranked Strath Haven, 31-29.

Harriton's dynamic duo of Patrick Moriarty and Sam Schlicting proved tough for Ridley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Moriarty threw for 89 yards and Schlicting had 46 yards receiving. Kenny Brown helped Harriton's passing attack out by catching three balls for 31 yards.

Cameron Durham was the most productive running back in Central this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 201 yards as Springfield lost to the Raiders. Rob Murphy also contributed to the rushing game with 29 yards on the ground.

Harriton's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Moriarty has thrown for 812 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Brown has 16 catches for 339 yards. Andre Pendleton leads the league in rushing with 511 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Garnet Valley takes on Ridley. At the moment, Mike Ricci's team is in fourth, while Dennis Decker's team is in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Jaguars take on the Raiders. Garnet Valley has allowed 78 points this season, while Ridley has given up 53.

The Jaguars suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 35-25 loss to Tom Kline's team. Garnet Valley had been ranked 25th, but fell to 64 following the defeat.
