Baseball Recap: Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin dropped their record down to 10-3 on Friday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They lost 9-1 to the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 on Thursday.

As for Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy's part, Nik Wirsching and Alex Mammone made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Wirsching didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Mammone pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Wirsching went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Mammone went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most hits Mammone has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Jacob Lancy was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ryan Wiehe, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 5-3 win against Lake Catholic on the 12th. As for Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, they have also already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Elyria Catholic on the 12th.
