Volleyball Recap: Cody Borchardt Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat South Milwaukee/St. Thomas More

Union Grove had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against South Milwaukee/St. Thomas More by a score of 3-1 on Monday. For the Broncos, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 victory South Milwaukee/St. Thomas More walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2023.

Union Grove had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 23-25, 26-24, 25-12, 25-13.

Union Grove's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cody Borchardt, who had eight aces and five digs. Those eight aces gave Borchardt a new career-high.

Borchardt wasn't the only good server: Union Grove was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Union Grove's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for South Milwaukee/St. Thomas More, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Union Grove will challenge Indian Trail at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for South Milwaukee/St. Thomas More, they have already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Greenfield on the 17th.
