Basketball Recap: Swink Takes a Loss

After flying high against Walsenburg last Thursday, Swink came back down to earth. The Swink Lions were beaten by the Hoehne Farmers 54-25 on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled against the Farmers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Swink lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jocelynn James, who posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley James, who earned six points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Swink smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hoehne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braylee Foster, who went 8 for 16 on her way to 16 points. Another player making a difference was Alessa Cantoria, who scored seven points and six steals.

Swink's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-7. As for Hoehne, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2.

Swink will head out to take on Las Animas at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hoehne, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rocky Ford at 4:30 p.m. on February 4th.
