Basketball Recap: Western Boone's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

The third road game was the charm for Western Boone, as they earned their first road win of the season. They had just enough and edged the Tri-Central Trojans out 57-54. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Stars as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Western Boone to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gavin Hawkins, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. The dominant performance gave Hawkins a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Westerfeld, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 13 points.

Hawkins wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Western Boone was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Western Boone's record now sits at 2-6. As for Tri-Central, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-3 record.

Western Boone wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-48 defeat against Morristown on the 28th. As for Tri-Central, they will square off against Daleville at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
