Softball Preview: Yorktown Wildcats vs. Refugio Bobcats
Yorktown is 1-6 against Refugio since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Yorktown Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Refugio Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Yorktown scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Pettus as Yorktown made off with a 22-2 victory. The win was just what Yorktown needed coming off of a 25-0 loss in their prior matchup.
Kaylor Carriger made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Carriger was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Yorktown got a massive performance out of DJ Maciel, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Faith Everitt, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Refugio made sure to put some runs up on the board against Skidmore-Tynan on Thursday. Refugio walked away with a 23-18 victory over Skidmore-Tynan.
Yorktown's win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-14. As for Refugio, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
